SD27- Cariboo-Chilcotin hires Secretary-Treasurer effective August 1, 2023

SD 27 is pleased to announce that Ms. Brenda Hooker will be assuming the role of Secretary-Treasurer as of August 1, 2023. Ms. Hooker is currently the Secretary-Treasurer of SD71, Courtenay Comox (since 2020). Prior to her role in SD 71, she had been the Secretary-Treasurer of SD60, North Peace.

Not only does Ms. Hooker bring the requisite financial training and sector level expertise, but she has also shown proven leadership in facilitating large capital projects such as new schools and day care projects. Ms. Hooker brings considerable expertise to the role including extensive audit experience through her work with the CRA, as well as time as an elected trustee.

Ms. Hooker has deep roots in the North and Interior and is looking forward to coming home.

“Comox Valley Schools is very appreciative of the work Brenda has done in her time with SD 71 and she’ll be leaving the district on solid financial footing,” says Tom Demeo, Superintendent of Schools. “We wish her all the best in her new role closer to her family.”

The Secretary-Treasurer role includes the portfolios of governance, facilities and transportation, legal services, property, contracts, and bargaining, as well as the financial operations. The District has been engaged in a multi-year modernization and effort to recruit sector expertise and is thrilled to be adding someone of Brenda’s experience and knowledge to this role and our community.

Said Board Chair, Ciel Patenaude, “The SD27 team has worked hard through good governance to continuously improve the financial outlook of the District as part of an effort to improve facilities and learning opportunities for students. We look forward to working with Brenda to continue our progress in these areas.”

We look forward to welcoming Brenda to our community.
