What a wonderful way to start the school year!
Our first day back was filled with excitement, smiles, and connection as we welcomed our Marie Sharpe Sharks back to school. Our staff were so happy to see everyone and begin another great year together!
We were incredibly grateful to celebrate our first day with a special Welcome Back Powwow. A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful drummers and dancers from Williams Lake First Nation for sharing their songs, dancing, culture, and teachings with our students and staff. Coming together as a school community was a meaningful way to begin our year, strengthening our connection with WLFN and creating a strong sense of belonging for our students.
Opportunities like this allow our students to experience and learn from local Indigenous culture while continuing to build meaningful relationships with our community. It was wonderful to see students and staff come together to listen, learn, dance, and celebrate.
As Mrs. McKinnon reminded us today, “Math can wait, community and dancing first!”
We couldn’t think of a better way to begin the year! We loved starting our first day with a Powwow and hope this is a tradition we can continue again and again.
