Tatla Lake Elementary/Junior
We were honoured to welcome staff from the Nenqayni Wellness Centre Society to our school for a day of meaningful cultural learning. Students participated in hands-on activities that encouraged reflection, creativity, and connection. They sewed small fabric hearts and chose traditional medicines—lavender, cedar, and/or devil’s club—to place inside, learning about their significance and the importance of caring for one’s heart.
Students also painted their own spirit boxes, expressing personal meaning through colour and design. The teachings shared throughout the day focused on the heart as a place that fosters positive thoughts, healthy relationships, and overall well-being. This experience supported students in building respect for Indigenous knowledge while nurturing mindfulness, creativity, and a sense of community.
