Students in our Grade 5/6 class have been exploring Indigenous knowledge and traditions through hands-on learning. During Indigenous Studies, students learned about medicine bags—small pouches traditionally used by many Indigenous peoples to carry meaningful items that represent connection, protection, learning, and personal reflection.

With guidance from Mrs. Dixon, students practiced basic sewing skills and carefully created their own medicine bag pouches. Through this process, they developed patience, perseverance, and craftsmanship while learning about the cultural importance of respecting Indigenous teachings.

Students will be able to use their pouches during our Outdoor Education classes to safely carry small personal or learning items while spending time on the land. This helps connect classroom learning with experiences in nature.
