In November, Mrs. Dixon’s Indigenous Studies class created hide medicine pouches offering students a meaningful, hands-on way to engage with Indigenous cultural practices connected to wellness, respect for the land, and traditional knowledge. This activity aligns with the B.C. Curriculum by supporting ADST competencies such as designing, creating, and reflecting, as well as Social Studies and Arts Education competencies related to understanding Indigenous perspectives, cultural expression, and the interconnectedness of identity, place, and community. Through this process, students build cultural awareness, strengthen personal connections to learning, and honour Indigenous knowledge systems in a respectful and authentic way.
