Educators joined Early Learning Coordinator Beulah Smith in 100 Mile House on the October 24th Professional Development Day to reflect on and embrace "The Giving Tree" a retelling of a traditional Metis story written and illustrated by Leah Dorian, Michif translation by Norman Fluery.
Educators had the opportunity to make a classroom "Giving Tree". Educators received a copy of the "The Giving Tree" to share with their students and a variety of resources to explore the story through classroom activities. The Classroom tree was created with the ability to receive items that could help students feel happy and safe within their classrooms.
Students will have the opportunity to contribute letters of encouragement, kindness, and support and other items that a student may have need of, for inside the tree for others to withdraw as needed. Educators were eager to engage with students and share this beautiful story about giving and receiving that reflects the Metis values.
