Traditional Drum Making

Resident Elder, Dave DeRose, worked with staff on how to build a traditional drum. Dave shared his 30+ years of experience with staff using cedar strips a and genuine buffalo hide to build a drum with the staff. The follow on is for each teacher to build their own traditional drum and then, with the help of Dave if needed, teach their students the same skills. We hope this sharing of knowledge will move our mindset from presence/practice to pedagogy and ultimately permanence.
