Horse Lake Elementary

Our Indigenous Support Worker, Mrs. Thomson, has been working closely with classroom teachers to help students learn about Indigenous ways of knowing and being. During the third week of September, students gathered in the teepee at Horse Lake Elementary, where they participated in meaningful discussions about reconciliation, healing, and shared stories.

Intermediate students also had the opportunity to learn on the land by collecting pitch and creating pitch medicine. Through this hands-on experience, students learned about traditional knowledge and the healing properties of natural medicines.

These valuable opportunities to engage with Indigenous culture, traditions, and teachings while spending time outdoors help strengthen our school community and foster respect, understanding, and connection.
