Lac La Hache Elementary
Staff attended a math workshop that left them excited about math assessment. Assessment for and of learning is always a struggle with using manipulative and capturing what they know with a lesson. This workshop presented the idea of doing assessment using the big four assessment presented by Carole Fullerton. It is inclusive and uses the 4 descriptors language for reporting. The big four is a skill-based assessment that allows teachers to quickly know what students know and can do in terms of the skill of the lesson. Each question increases in difficulty starting with a simple straightforward question. Then a more complex question. Next an exception to the rule question. Ending with an open-ended question. Since the workshop staff have been asking questions like "show me how you know?" and "how do you know you are finished?" to assess understanding.
