Tatla Lake Elementary/Junior

Place-based learning continues to create meaningful and memorable learning experiences for students. Over the past several weeks, our primary class has been immersed in a hands-on science inquiry exploring metamorphic and non-metamorphic life cycles.

Learning extended far beyond the classroom walls as students observed the natural changes happening around them each day. They eagerly monitored the bulbs they planted last fall, noticing signs of growth and discussing the stages of plant development. Students also had the exciting opportunity to care for painted lady caterpillars, watching them transform into butterflies before releasing them outdoors. Our outdoor learning adventures also encouraged inquiry and experimentation. When learning about the life cycle of dandelions students tested whether dandelions are waterproof. These playful but meaningful experiences helped students strengthen observation, questioning, and critical thinking skills while building deeper connections to the land and seasonal changes in our community.
