Grade 6 Students Thrive At Gavin Lake Winter Camp

An extremely hardy group of grade six students from Horse Lake Elementary attended a two day winter camp at Gavin Lake last week. Despite frigid temperatures and wind-chill, the recent snowfall provided with students with excellent conditions for outdoor learning. Freshly-groomed tracks made for excellent cross-country skiing and identifying animal tracks, and snow shoeing and snow science also benefitted from the fresh snow. The cold temperatures ensured the ice rink was in top shape, and was a major draw for free time activities. Campfire s'mores and a surprise appearance in the evening sky from a SpaceX booster rocket capped off another superb outdoor winter experience.
