Marie Sharpe Elementary

On October 23, Mrs. McKinnon and Ms. Campsall had the pleasure of attending the BC Mental Health Symposium in Surrey for the Pro-D Day! It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from experts in education, mental wellness, and leadership, and to bring some new ideas back to Marie Sharpe!

Throughout the day, they heard from some incredible speakers, including Trevor MacKenzie, who shared the importance of building cultures of curiosity through inquiry-based learning, and Bill Corcoran, who explored mental wellness in our technology-filled world and how AI can help make workloads more manageable. Dr. Jody Carrington emphasized the importance of authentic human connections and relationships, reminding everyone that "If the big people aren't okay, the little people don't stand a chance." Dr. Gail Markin encouraged participants to think beyond individual self-care and focus on creating healthier school systems, while Dana Fulwiler Volk shared the growing movement toward human flourishing and how schools can create environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

One of the biggest takeaways from the day was that healthy schools begin with healthy people. Mrs. McKinnon and Ms. Campsall are excited to bring this learning back to Marie Sharpe as they continue working with staff to support the well-being of both students and educators!
