Cataline Elementary
On June 11, 2026, Cataline Elementary hosted a powerful Blanketing Ceremony to honour local Residential School Survivors. In partnership with the Orange Shirt Society and with the tremendous support of volunteers from the Williams Lake Quilting Club, students designed and created seven beautiful quilts to present as gifts to survivors.
The Blanketing Ceremony provided an opportunity for our school community to recognize and celebrate the special guests. The blanket served as a powerful symbol of warmth, protection, honour, and love. As each blanket was placed upon a survivor’s shoulders, it reflected our deep respect for their journey and our commitment to listening to their experiences, supporting the revitalization of Indigenous languages and cultures, and taking concrete steps toward reconciliation in our communities, workplaces, and daily lives.
The ceremony was a powerful way to honour the survivors not only by recognizing their experiences, but also by carrying their teachings forward through our actions and relationships as we walked together in a good way.
