This program is provided to grade 11 and 12 students in the Cariboo-Chilcotin School District through partnerships with local industry and business leaders in mining, forestry, road building and maintenance, and WorkSafeBC.
What is Heavy Metal Rocks?
Heavy Metal Rocks is a hands-on program that gives Grade 11 and 12 students the opportunity to learn how to operate a variety of heavy duty equipment while working alongside experienced trainers in a real industry environment.
Program Information
The program is generally offered in April in Williams Lake or May in 100 Mile House.
- Students spend multiple days operating different types of equipment and participating in activities and stations related to heavy equipment and industry careers.
Students Will Also Receive
- Level 1 First Aid Certification
- WHIMIS Certification
There is a preliminary sign-up list at both the Lake City Secondary and Peter Skeen Ogden Career Centres. Applications are released later in the school year. Students who are interested should put their name on the preliminary list so that they can notified when the applications become available.
The Cariboo-Chilcotin School District works closely with local industry partners and businesses to provide students with a broad range of hands-on experience. Students have the opportunity to operate equipment ranging from mini excavators to large excavators, rock trucks, feller bunchers, and more.
