Cataline Elementary
At Cataline Elementary, National Truth and Reconciliation week meant learning and understanding the history and experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada, including the history and harmful impacts of residential schools.
Students were encouraged to listen with open hearts and minds, ask respectful questions, and think about how we can help create a school where everyone feels safe, valued, and included.
Through morning announcements, classroom lessons, Indigenous literature, and cultural activities (e.g. smudging, drumming, singing, language and crafts) students were engaged in many meaningful learning experiences. The focus of the week was to not only learn about the truth, but to also put our learning into action by showing kindness, respect, courage, and compassion for everyone, every day.
