Tatla Lake Elementary/Junior
For National Forest Week, Tatla Lake students explored the question: What makes a forest healthy?
We began by reading How the Forest Grew and discussing the relationships between trees, plants, animals, soil, water, and people. Students then headed outdoors for a walk and conversation in our forest environment and outdoor classroom before hiking up to the "Thinking Trees."
Using our local forest as a living classroom, students observed, asked questions, and shared ideas about what a healthy forest looks, sounds, and feels like. Back at school, students will use their observations and learning to create a drawing representing a healthy forest for the National Forest Week drawing contest.
