Making Pitch Salve

Our students had the opportunity to learn alongside Dancing Water Sandy and Freda Alphonse through a hands-on traditional learning activity making pitch salve. Using pitch that students have been collecting around our school, students learned about traditional Indigenous knowledge, plant medicine, and the many ways natural materials from the land have been used for healing and wellness for generations. Students were excited to take their jars of salve home to share with their families and talk about what they learned.
