Lhatsas?in Memorial Day

I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to take part in the Lhatsas?in Memorial Service in Quesnel. Lhatsas?in is a Tsilhqot'in Memorial Day that recognizes the date when Tsilhqot'in Chiefs were promised a peace accord and invited to a meeting under a flag of truce. Instead, five Chiefs were shackled, tried for murder, and hung where the GR Baker Hospital now stands. A sixth Chief was later hanged in New West Minister.

A full resource kit and Chilcotin War unit are available for all SD 27 teachers to share the history of the territory on which we are educating our students.
