Columneetza Junior Secondary
On September 29th, our Grade 7 classes had the opportunity to attend an Orange Shirt Day event organized by the Orange Shirt Society and the Cariboo Chilcotin School District (CCSD) at the Williams Lake First Nation Arbor. The event featured many honoured speakers and performers, including Kukpi7 Sellars, Little Chiefs students and WLFN Culture, Phyllis Webstad, Superintendent Cheryl Lenardon, Len Supernault and Young War Society with the Big Drum Song, Linda Jack’s students performing Tsilhqot’in songs, Kukpi7 Hank Adams, CCSD Indigenous Role Models Anaiya Hink and Landon Williams, and local performers Rich n Beka + Dancers.
Following the program, students had opportunities to speak, sing, dance, share a meal, and learn through a variety of activities. We are proud of the respect and engagement our students demonstrated throughout this meaningful event. Thank you to all the organizers, speakers, performers, and community members who made the day possible!
