District Wide Orange Shirt Day

Two gatherings to honour Indigenous ancestors, those who attended residential schools, and the future generations impacted by the residential school system were hosted collaboratively by the Orange Shirt Society, Cariboo-Chilcotin School District and the Williams Lake First Nation. Many people gathered in solidarity to spend time together in song and prayer, to speak their languages, and to celebrate through dance. Speakers included Chief Brent Dixon, Chief Willie Sellars, Phyllis Webstad, Cheryl Chapman, Mike Retasket, and Dancing Water Sandy. There were numerous booths offering activities and prizes for the hundreds of students who participated.
