A teacher from each school was invited to be part of an exciting District team. Members were sponsored by the district to attend 4 x 60 minute virtual sessions on November 3, 10, 17, 24: Social Emotional Learning Strategies through Nature-based Learning. Following the series the district team will meet with facilitators Jade Berrill, award-winning outdoor educator, and Lauren MacLean, author of Me and My Sit Spot, on December 1, to reflect and plan to take the learning out across schools.
There is a growing understanding of the relationship between nature-based approaches and physical and mental well-being and learning benefits. This connects to the teachings of Monique Gray Smith we have had over the past several years in the district, the OECD global research on learning environments, Compassionate Systems Change, and the new BC Early Years Framework.
