Books for Babies
Books for Babies has been giving book bags to new parents in the Cariboo since 2001. Babies love to hear their parents’ voice and books give them something to talk about. When read over and over and over again, a good story gives children the chance to learn language.
In Williams Lake, the Welcome Wagon delivers book bags to new parents while they are still in the hospital and the program is fully funded through the Kiwanis Club.
In 100 Mile House, the Health Nurses have taken on the task of getting book bags to parents of newborns.
Each Books for Babies bag contains community information for new parents and 2-4 books to share with their new baby that are a lot of fun to read.
Books for Babies knows it is never too early to read to a baby! If you have had a baby in the past year and did not receive your Books for Babies bag, please visit the Health Centre and the receptionist or Health Nurse will give you your bag. Download the Books for Babies Brochure below.
The Cariboo-Chilcotin Partners for Literacy Society is looking for a long-term funding sponsor. We are always looking for community members interested in helping out with Books for Babies. If anyone would like to volunteer to fundraise, coordinate, or stuff book bags, please contact us.
Thanks to Williams Lake and District Credit Union and Cariboo-Chilcotin Partners for Literacy Society for funding Books for Babies!
