First Nations Welcome Arch installed at PSO

Students in front of FN arch

Salvaged from the debris of the Mount Polley Mine disaster by Sitka Log Homes, these twin posts and header now frame the main entry to Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School. Masterfully carved and painted by Canim Lake carver, Jerome Boyce, the beaver, bear and eagle represent hard work and diligence, strength and healing, and watchfulness and hold up the main timber displaying, in Shuswap, "Welcome Home" or "Spirit Power". Official celebrations honouring the creation and installation of this piece of art will take place in September as part of PSO's continued efforts to recognize the place of indigenous ways of learning, language and culture in the education life of PSO.
