Kindergym has been running in 100 Mile House since years and opens every Thursday morning from 9:45-11:45 in the 100 Mile House Community Hall. It is a centrally-located, community-based, parent-participation StrongStart program focused on active play. It is enjoyed by dozens of children and families each week – and is especially important during the winter months. It is run by a School District No. 27 Early Childhood Educator and is co-facilitated by members of the South Cariboo Early Childhood Development Team.

Kindergym is time for parent and child to spend together. When children arrive they are welcomed by a wide range of experiential opportunities including: a large floor space for engaging in gross motor activities, a baby area, fine motor skills activities, snack table, arts & crafts table and reading corner.

Kindergym provides opportunities for families and young children to:

  • learn together through play;
  • build intergenerational literacy skills by talking, singing, arts, and dramatic play;
  • make friends and build support networks amongst families;
  • discuss parenting issues;
  • practice social skills; and
  • connect parents to service providers and other community programs.
