Preparing Your Child for School

The first day of school is exciting!  It is about new beginnings, meeting friends, finding a new classroom, and meeting new teachers.  All of this helps students learn how to manage change.  Below are a few ideas to help prepare the children and youth in your life for school.

1. Be enthusiastic about the first day of school. If you are excited and confident, your child will be too.

2. Take note of how your child reacts to separation. If possible, visit the school with your child.

3. Get back on schedule. Have your children go to bed and wake up at the times required for school. Check what time school starts and finishes on the first day.

4. Put aside extra time, particularly on the first day, for chatting and getting to school.

5. Remind your child they will make friends, learn new things, and have fun.

Plain Language

As a Board of Education, the School District works to support literacy for everyone from preschoolers to seniors.  The Cariboo-Chilcotin Partners for Literacy suggest the use of plain language so everyone can understand and act upon what they read.  Using clear and plain language means everyone is informed, whether a person is in a hurry, visually disabled, learning disabled, or English is a second language.  I will be using plain language when I write newsletters and post information on the website.  If you would like information about how to write in plain language please go to our web site at the following location:
