School District Demographics

The Cariboo-Chilcotin School Board serves 5800 students in elementary and secondary schools, and 1,000 youth and adult students in adult education centers and Distributed Learning.  The School District has an operating budget of approximately $50 million.

School Board Meetings

The provincial Ministry of Education has responsibility for public education in British Columbia.  It sets the basic curriculum and provides the school district's funding.  The Cariboo-Chilcotin School Board, a group of 7 school trustees, is elected every three years. The trustees consult with a variety of partners, and make decisions on the basis of clear educational philosophy and goals while keeping in line with the School District's Mission Statement.

See the District Plan for this Academic Year.

The Cariboo-Chilcotin School Board’s work is divided among three major committees.  These include:
  • Education
  • Finance
  • Policy

These committees include Trustees, appropriate District Staff, and where required staff and representatives from parent, student groups, unions, and associations connected to the School Board.  Overall, this allows for a comprehensive discussion of school district matters. Following each committee meeting, recommendations are forwarded to the full board for approval.

See the School Board Meeting Schedule.

All board and committee meetings are open to the public, except for in-camera sessions which are used to discuss personnel or confidential financial matters.
